Few names in motoring history command as much admiration as Ferrari’s 365 GTB/4 - affectionately and almost universally known as the “Daytona”. The nickname, born from Ferrari’s legendary 1-2-3 sweep at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, has come to define this model’s spirit: powerful, elegant, and unflinchingly fast.

Unveiled to the world at the 1968 Paris Motor Show, the Daytona marked the end of an era - Ferrari’s last great front-engined V12 grand tourer before the marque shifted fully into the mid-engine age.

Beneath its long, sculpted bonnet lay a 4.4-litre Colombo V12 with four overhead camshafts, delivering 352 bhp of both refinement and raw power. With a top speed of 174 mph (280 km/h), it set new benchmarks for the world’s fastest road cars.

The Daytona’s rear-mounted five-speed transaxle ensured an almost perfect 50:50 weight balance, while its independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes made it as composed as it was capable.

The design, penned by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, is widely celebrated as one of the purest expressions of Ferrari’s grand touring DNA. Fioravanti himself once described the Daytona as the project he was “most proud of” - the one he considered “the best I’ve ever done”. Both Sergio Pininfarina and Enzo Ferrari personally approved the final form - a rare convergence of design, performance, and philosophy.

Ordered new through W.H. Lowe Automobiles of Balwyn Victoria, in 1973 this Daytona was delivered in Blu Scuro over Sabbia leather with Black inserts and Tan carpeting. Factory-equipped with air-conditioning, electric windows, radio delete, and its original wheels, it remains a beautifully specified example.

The first owner cherished the car for 42 years meticulously maintaining and preserving in original condition throughout his stewardship. Quietly admired within Australia’s Ferrari community, it became known as an exemplary example of authenticity.

The original owner only onsold the car due to a persistent individual's desperation to own it. The car has passed through two more equally respectful Australian custodians, each continuing its tradition of uncompromising maintenance and preservation.
