1991 Ferrari F40 $POA

This is not just a car. This is Enzo Ferrari’s final love letter to the automotive world — the last model personally approved by the man himself before his passing. With only 1,315 units produced worldwide, the Ferrari F40 is the purest expression of speed, design, and purpose ever to emerge from Maranello. It wasn’t made to coddle. It was made to thrill.

Unveiled in 1987 at the Civic Centre in Maranello to commemorate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, the F40 shattered expectations — and the record books — becoming the fastest production road car in the world, with a top speed of 201 mph (324 km/h). It silenced critics who claimed Ferrari had grown too comfortable. In response, Ferrari went back to basics — and back to brilliance.

Designed by Pininfarina, the F40’s lines are both functional and ferocious. Every detail serves a purpose, with an obsessive focus on lightweight engineering. Weighing just 1,250 kg, it pioneered the use of Kevlar, carbon fibre, and aluminium — materials once reserved for Formula One. There was no ABS, no power steering, no carpets, and no compromise. Just the road, the driver, and Ferrari’s engineering at its most unfiltered.

All F40s were finished in Rosso Corsa and built in left-hand drive. Its development occurred behind closed doors on Saturdays — a secret project, carried out outside normal hours by Ferrari’s most trusted engineers. Enzo wanted this car to be different. And it shows.

Its 2.9L twin-turbocharged V8 delivered 478BHP of such unrelenting power that Pirelli developed an entirely new tyre, the now-legendary P-Zero, to keep it firmly planted. The result: a road car with the grip and composure of a racing machine.

Delivered new in May 1991 to Mr. John Collins in the UK — a man internationally recognised as the most prolific trader of rare and collectible Ferraris — this F40 holds exceptional provenance.

In 2000, it was exported to Japan, where it remained in the hands of just three private collectors. In 2014, it was imported to Australia, entering the care of a respected Ferrari connoisseur in Canberra, where it was meticulously preserved.
