2015 McLaren P1 $POA

The McLaren P1 isn’t just a supercar—it’s a technological and philosophical landmark. When it debuted in 2013, it redefined what a hypercar could be. This wasn’t a machine built to chase numbers alone—it was engineered to transform the very nature of driving.

At its core lies a revolutionary powertrain: a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a potent electric motor, seamlessly integrated to produce a staggering 903 horsepower. The result? Acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and 0–300 km/h in just 16.5 seconds. The quarter mile disappears in 9.8 seconds at over 241 km/h, while top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h (217 mph).

But the P1 was never just about straight-line speed. With only 375 units produced worldwide—and just a handful reaching Australian shores—it was designed as a purposeful rarity. A car that embodied McLaren’s purist philosophy, with every surface, component, and calibration honed to serve one master: the driver.

The vision was spearheaded by Ron Dennis, McLaren’s then-Managing Director. For Dennis, the P1 was more than a successor to the legendary McLaren F1—it was a spiritual evolution. It traded analog rawness for digital precision, blending cutting-edge technology with pure driving emotion. As Dennis saw it, the P1 was closer to a fighter jet than a road car.

To that end, it incorporated an array of Formula 1–derived technologies, including:

  • Drag Reduction System (DRS)
  • Instant Power Assist System (IPAS)
  • Hybrid torque fill
  • Active suspension with predictive damping
  • KERS-style regenerative braking

Its carbon-fibre monocoque and bodywork delivered exceptional rigidity and lightness. The aero-optimized design managed airflow with surgical precision, enhancing both cooling and downforce—all while maintaining its bold, dynamic exterior.

This specific P1 is a 2015 model, finished in Volcano Yellow metallic over a Carbon Black leather and Alcantara interior, accented by Cadmium Yellow contrast stitching and features lightweight stealth-finish wheels.

First delivered new to Auckland, New Zealand, in March 2015 — a fitting location, being Bruce McLaren’s birthplace — the car was initially owned by a prominent New Zealand enthusiast who later replaced it with a McLaren Senna. It was then acquired by an Australian collector who described the experience as “love at first ignition.” With only three private owners since new, the car remains in pristine, collector-grade condition.

Having travelled just 2,973 kilometres, it comes with full McLaren-authorised service and warranty history, complete Australian compliance, and comprehensive documentation. It is, without question, one of the most desirable and complete P1s available.

Experts often speak of the “Holy Trinity” of hybrid hypercars: the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, and the McLaren P1. Among these giants, the P1 stands out as the most unapologetically driver-focused—not just engineered for lap times, but for pure, unfiltered engagement.

As Ron Dennis said, the McLaren P1 was designed to be "the most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made." It bridged McLaren’s past (the F1) and its future (the anticipated W1), serving as a bold declaration of the brand’s core values: innovation, connection, and uncompromising engineering.
