NEW ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE

On a challenging road, Britannia still rules.

Each wheel of the new Aston Martin Vantage carries an equal 25% of the car’s weight.

This is a perfectly balanced car, made to reward the driver with near telepathic response, and utterly thrilling performance.

The power of the hand-made, twin turbo V8 is prodigious. It allows the Vantage to reach 100km/h in a scant 3.5 seconds, and well beyond that in little more time too.

Aston Martin themselves have described the new Vantage as their most driver-focussed ever. Yet this car is also both hugely comfortable, and comforting.

Every luxury and comfort shares space with every safety system a car like this needs – especially important given the prodigious performance. Of particular note is the new infotainment system, created in house, it’s a work of genius.

Of course, many people will buy the new Vantage simply to look at it, and who could blame them? This truly is the best of British. All-consuming passion dressed up in an immaculately tailored 3 piece suit.

Our first Vantage is on the way to Aston Martin Melbourne. Let us know if you’d like to be among the first to see this incredible car.

ABARTH 500E NOW AT ZAGAME

Proof adding a battery adds excitement.

This is what ‘fit for purpose’ design looks like. The right-size car, the right-size battery and a right-sized smile on the driver’s face.

The Abarth 500e is a car built with balance in mind. Nothing is overdone. Handling balance is assured by keeping the battery weight down low in the body. Abarth deliberately chose a smaller, lighter battery, one that’s right-sized for the job and the car. And it makes the Abarth feel alive.

Other cars may be faster but - on balance - this is more than fast enough to excite with every drive. It’s equally suited to a city environment, or a quick blast in the hills. And the styling turns heads like few other new cars. Just look at it. It’s the perfect balance of yesterday and tomorrow.

If you’re not smiling after a test drive, we’ll need to check your pulse.

FERRARI ROMA SPIDER ARRIVES

A high-tech return to Ferrari tradition.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than 20 years since you were able to buy a front-engined, soft-top Ferrari.

But one look at the car here and it’s clearly been worth the wait. The new Ferrari Roma Spider is the perfect embodiment of a Ferrari Grand Tourer; a car built to flatten mountains and flatter egos like no other.

But this is not a car made for show. The Roma has been designed, engineered and built to perform like a true Ferrari. It can be docile. It can be outrageously fast. All dependant on your mood and the road ahead.

It offers coupé level comfort thanks to the 5 layer roof, or the sheer joy of a clear blue sky. Roof down takes just 13 seconds. You can be driving at up to 80km/h when you convert this ridiculously beautiful convertible. Which demonstrates all that unseen engineering is beautiful too.

CAR Magazine recently drove the Roma Spider and were suitably impressed.

“It's not often we strike gold so soon after getting behind the wheel of a car for the first time, but today the Roma Spider is a glorious exception.”

Our showroom car has arrived and is available for a test drive now.

The list of people wanting to experience this landmark car is growing by the day, so we’d suggest you make contact soon.

BEHIND THE WHEEL - BENTLEY GT

Substantial in every sense.

A single word kept popping into my mind over a couple of days with the Bentley GT. Substance.

There is real substance in the way this car is made. It might be one of those too rare occasions in life where you get what you pay for - and more. To illustrate, feel the knurled, machined surface inside the inner door pulls. No-one will ever see it, but you can feel it, and it feels amazing. Every time you open the door you’re reminded of the care and attention that’s been lavished on this car.

It’s equally enjoyable to use the effortlessly intuitive push and pull ventilation controllers. They feel almost mechanical and reek of quality. It all feels designed to last, an heirloom in the making. Every stitch is perfectly aligned, every alcantara and leather surface is joined, quilted and contrasted perfectly with the next.

And then, you press the start button. Those who say there’s nothing like a V8 might have been inspired by a Bentley GT. The sound is an intoxicating mix of burble, balance, menace and invitation. (There's even a few examples of the W12 version left if you act fast).

Select ‘Drive’ and the sheer force of the acceleration as the nose lifts and the GT rockets toward the horizon is completely unexpected. It’s all the more exciting because of that. Yes, that word ‘substance’ came to mind again.

There is substance to the way this Bentley drives too. When roads are clear, sweeping 80km/h roundabouts can be dispatched barely touching the brakes, with just a hug from the perfectly positioned seat bolsters to acknowledge the physics at play.

It all feels so effortless, so refined. A car that feels this special can’t help but make a driver feel exactly the same way.

LAMBORGHINI HIGH COUNTRY TOUR

Lamborghini owners experience the highs.

There’s nothing better than experiencing a car in the environment it was made for.

Needless to say, twisting, challenging mountain roads are a perfect match for any Lamborghini.

Held over 3 days, the Esperienza Giro Oceana took in some of the best driving roads in the country, with a route that passed through Falls Creek, Beechworth, Milawa and the King Valley from the start here in Melbourne.

Apart from driving these fabulous roads, the tour took in visits to wineries including Brown Brothers, a hot-air balloon ride, and a suitably-dramatic conclusion with the launch of the new Revuelto back in Melbourne.

23 cars from around Australia took part – including the Aventador and Aventador SVJ, the Huracan, Urus and a spectacular ’98 Diablo.

More of these events will be coming this year, with the Tasmanian Giro planned for April. It’s great to see these cars being used in the way their passionate maker intended.

Rare cars, rarely seen.

In December’s edition of Passion, we mentioned the Wombat Park Classic Concours, supported by Zagame.

Many of the cars on display are exceedingly rare. All of them have a story. One of the highlights will undoubtedly be the incredibly rare and historied Porsche 718 RSK pictured here.

Wombat Park is a little over 90 minutes from Melbourne, just outside Daylesford. It’s surrounded by some of Victoria’s most beautiful gardens, complete with National Trust listed trees. It’s hard to imagine a more beautiful backdrop for some of the most incredible vehicles in Australia.

The Wombat Park Concours will take place on Saturday February 17. Click this link for a special offer on tickets for Zagame customers.

MCLAREN GTS

Leave it all behind, without leaving things behind.

This is the new version of the McLaren GT, the GTS. And it's coming soon to McLaren Melbourne.

The GTS answers a question some other car makers have ignored until now. What if you want to get out of town to enjoy life a little and you’d like to take something more than a toothbrush?

A slightly longer body, and slightly extended rear hatch, liberate more than 420 litres of room for your luggage, and that’s not including the 150 litres of additional storage under the front carbon-fibre bonnet.

Obviously, this escape machine lets you get out of town exceptionally quickly. The 100km/h limit is reached in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed of this 467kW V8 McLaren is 326km/h, if your escape route allows.

Clearly, all this practicality has little impact on performance. Or looks. The GTS is a beautifully proportioned car. The extended roofline adding a touch of elegance to visually balance the aggressively cab-forward supercar stance. The interior is trimmed in sumptuous leather and alcantara. There’s ample room, a great stereo and automatic climate control too.

Your luxurious escape will begin the moment you get behind the wheel. Which we’d suggest you do. This might just be McLaren’s most surprising – and most useable – model yet.

BRABUS GLS

Thrill 7 people at the same time.

A large, luxurious SUV has no right to perform the way this one does. It’s more like alchemy than engineering.

Driving a Brabus 800 (the Brabusized version of the Mercedes AMG GLS63) there is 588kW of power and 1,000Nm of torque under your right foot. That’s approximately 84kW of power per-passenger – enough to power an average small car.

Combine a press of the throttle with disdain for the laws of physics and the Brabus 800 will reach 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. It will do it time and time again too, in complete luxury. What’s more, the soundtrack is one of the most dramatic in the motoring world. It’s exciting to simply blip the throttle.

Every Brabus is hand-assembled to the owner’s specification, so every car is a unique piece of aerodynamic, engineering art.

PAGANI IMOLA

Let’s end the edition on a high note…

The Pagani Imola Roadster is equal parts art and car. Which isn’t surprising, Horatio Pagani – the car’s creator – is a firm believer in Leonardo Da Vinci’s concept of Art and Science being intertwined, perhaps even inseparable.

You can see art in every small part of this car - every knob, vent, texture and dial.

The science part is more obvious on a track. Appropriately, the Imola is named after the famous Italian circuit. The Imola Roadster can generate twice the force of gravity (lateral grip) around corners. It generates more than 600kg of downforce at speed.

The sound and power of the V12 engine is astounding too. The rarity of this car isn’t just the number that will be made (8 by the way).

The fusion of design and attention to detail with savage performance makes this (and every) Pagani unique in the world. Art and Science indeed.

Stand by for more big news from Pagani in coming months.
