Zagame news – December 2023

Our newsletter is called ‘The Passion’. The content in this edition makes it clear why we chose the name. Zagame are truly fortunate that so many of our brands are created and run by passionate people.

Alfa Romeo with the Stradale, Aston Martin with the DB12 Volante, Cupra with the Dark Rebel Concept and Lamborghini’s Ducati collaboration are all the result of people who understand that brands are made of more than just the metal.

We are equally fortunate the Zagame team share that same passion and drive. Whether you simply read on, or visit a showroom, you’ll be in good hands.

ASTON MARTIN DB12 VOLANTE

Heart stopping looks. Heart pounding performance.

Some convertibles just don’t have the elegance of the coupé they’re based on. Not in this case though.

In fact, the Aston Martin DB12 Volante gives little away to its DB12 coupé sibling – in either looks or performance.

Many believe with the DB12, Aston Martin created a whole new class of performance car – the Super Tourer. The convertible version does the same, while also letting you enjoy those perfect sunny days, and the sound of the quad cam V8, just a little bit more.

Styling aside, the folding fabric roof is a work of engineering art. 7 layers make it virtually as quiet as the coupé. It can be lowered while driving at suburban speeds in around 13 seconds. So you can change your car faster than the weather (That truly matters in Melbourne).

The bonded alloy, composite structure of the DB12 Volante has untold strength, combined with light weight. This is, clearly a performance car designed to flatten mountains and shrink continents.

The Aston Martin DB12 Coupe has arrived at Aston Martin Melbourne, and the Volante is imminent.

Images don’t do this convertible justice. Please let us know when you’d like to see it in the composite-panelled, bonded-alloy, 7-layered flesh.

DUCATI STREETFIGHTER STO

A match made in heaven (or Bologna at least).

This is the Ducati Streetfighter STO. As you may be able to guess, it’s been inspired by the Lamborghini Huracan STO.

It’s no surprise that the Streetfighter and Huracan STOs would be so perfectly attuned in both style and performance. These iconic Italian brands live just 22km apart in the Italian region of Bologna. Theoretically, the factories are 23 minutes apart, although we’re sure it rarely takes that long for them to make the journey.

Just 630 +63 examples of this stunning motorcycle will be made. So why the ‘+63’? That’s the number reserved for owners of a Huracan STO who wanted a version to perfectly match the colour scheme of their own car - and all have been spoken for.

The last time Ducati and Lamborghini collaborated, the Siàn-inspired Ducati Diavel 1260 sold out in mere hours. Clearly, these two neighbouring brands value performance and style with equal passion.

CUPRA DARK REBEL

Customer's Passion drives CUPRA design.

This is the Cupra Dark Rebel. It looks different, because it was designed in an entirely new way. This show car was designed by Cupra’s customers.

It started life online, virtually, as a series of questions. The answers, thoughts and ideas supplied by Cupra’s ambassadors, fans and customers dictated what this show car became. And that can only be described as extraordinary.

This 100% electric, lightweight 2-seater was designed as a ‘shooting brake’ – a body style that combines sports car dynamics with the ability to carry all your sporting equipment for an active life.

The upward opening doors reveal an interior that’s equally incredible. It will no doubt influence Cupra interiors to come. Launching the Dark Rebel, Cupra said: “It is a rebel with a purpose. To prove that electric cars in the future can be sporty, sexy and emotional.”,

Cupra’s customers have spoken and they obviously want their cars designed with passion and emotion. Take a look at the current Cupra range, and you’ll discover those things are a hallmark of the brand already.

Ironically, it’s the ‘Dark Rebel’ that points to an even brighter future.

FERRARI ICE DRIVE

Driving a Ferrari has never been so cool.

Up in the mountains outside of Queenstown New Zealand is a vehicle proving ground used by manufacturers from all around the world. It’s high security, frozen all year, and rarely seen. And it’s an unforgettable driving experience. Especially when you’re driving a Ferrari.

The all new Purosangue FUV was joined on the ice by the 296 GTB and the cars certainly brought out the best in the drivers. Full briefing and tuition allowed the participants to get the most out of the cars, with all mastering the intricacies of the ‘Scandinavian Flick’ and driving while looking out the side window.

In challenging conditions, the Ferraris all handled superbly. With an emphasis on control, not outright speed, the handling finesse of the cars was even more apparent.

Of course, like any time at the snow, warming up at the Lodge afterwards was equally enjoyable. In fact, the entire experience was a memory to be treasured.

We will be back.

ALFA ROMEO STRADALE

One of the most beautiful cars ever made. Again.

The original Alfa Romeo Stradale created in 1967 has been described as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. At the time, although massively influential, it was an exceedingly rare car. The same can be said for the 2023 tribute, which is already a sell-out success.

Just 33 will be made and each customer will be getting something truly special. For starters, they could choose between a rear wheel drive 463 kW twin turbo V6, or a triple motor all electric drivetrain with at least 560kW.

Either option will rocket the Stradale to 100km/h in less than 3 seconds.

The body has a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis with aluminium subframes. Panels are a mix of carbon fibre and aluminium. Aerodynamics have been incorporated into the bodywork to help recreate the smooth lines of the original, while creating current standards of aerodynamic downforce and cooling.

This has all been tested to the limit by F1 Piloti Valtteri Bottas.

The new Stradale is a tour de force that reflects the style and design brilliance visible in all current Alfa Romeo products. It’s proof positive that passionate brands make the most passionate cars.

CHARITY DRIVE DAYS

The fastest way to support worthwhile charities.

Zagame are proud to support the Charity Drive Days at Phillip Island. It’s an iconic circuit, but sometimes the weather can be a challenge. For the track day in October, everything was perfect one day, cold and wet the next!

There was a perfect selection of cars on the track too. These ranged from exotics like Aston Martins and Lamborghinis through to a range of Abarth models. These little rockets always impress on the track. They certainly create enjoyment out of all proportion to their size.

Charity Drive Days support a range of important children’s charities, and the October result was outstanding with more than $200,000 raised. The Zagame clients who attended and staff who give their time, are proud to help them achieve their very worthwhile goals.
